A WORLD WHERE SCULPTURE BECOMES WEARABLE

Luftmensch is an independent art and design practice founded by Elif Yılmaz.

Originating from German, the name Luftmensch is often associated with dreamers—those who imagine beyond what already exists and find meaning in possibility. This very spirit remains at the heart of the practice.

Working primarily with ceramics and material experimentation, Luftmensch creates wearable sculptures, collectible objects, and functional artworks that exist at the intersection of contemporary craft, artistic expression, and everyday rituals.

Each collection begins with a narrative. Emerging from memories, observations, dreams, or emotions, these stories gradually take shape through rigorous research, sketchbooks, material studies, and hand-building processes. The result is a coherent body of work where objects become carriers of meaning rather than simply decorative forms.

The studio deeply embraces small-scale production, natural materials, and slow-making practices. Rather than pursuing uniformity, each piece is individually shaped, carrying subtle variations that reflect its unique journey from conception to physical object.

Through collections, curated exhibitions, and interdisciplinary collaborations, Luftmensch seeks to preserve the intimate rituals of making while continually exploring new forms of contemporary expression.

A world where sculpture becomes wearable, and objects become stories.

from storytelling to sculpture

Elif Yılmaz is an Istanbul-based artist, designer, and creative strategist working across ceramics, wearable art, and material storytelling.

With a background in Advertising and years of experience in brand strategy and creative communication, she spent much of her career helping others shape identities, narratives, and cultural relevance. Alongside this professional journey, she quietly cultivated her own artistic practice through the medium of clay.

Over the years, she trained and worked in various ceramic studios—learning from diverse ceramic artists and makers while developing her own distinct approach to material exploration and hand-building techniques. What began as a personal curiosity gradually evolved into a lifelong devotion, ultimately laying the foundation for Luftmensch in 2022.

Her work explores the nuanced relationship between body, object, and memory, investigating how raw materials can preserve emotions, stories, and transformations. Moving seamlessly between wearable sculptures, collectible objects, and functional forms, she approaches the act of making as a dynamic dialogue between intuition, craftsmanship, and imagination.

Today, she continues to develop interdisciplinary collections that blur the boundaries between contemporary craft, art, and design, creating evocative works that invite personal interpretation and connection.
